On Wednesday April 25th 2012, the Infrastructure Security Compliance Division (ISCD) reached a milestone as it completed its 1000th Compliance Assistance Visit (CAV). CAVs support the regulated community by helping chemical facilities to understand and meet the requirements under the Chemical Facility Anti-terrorism Standards (CFATS) based on their own unique circumstances.
ISCD began conducting CAVs in 2007 to assist facilities in completing Top Screens and the highest risk facilities in submitting Security Vulnerability Assessments. Today, CAVs are conducted to provide technical assistance and educate regulated or potentially regulated facilities about the CFATS program, to provide assistance with CSAT registrations and submissions, and to answer additional questions about how to meet the requirements of CFATS. CAVs also help ISCD to assess any facility’s claim that it has made a material modification to its operations or site, assist ISCD in evaluating any facility’s request for redetermination, and allow ISCD to follow-up on any security issues or incidents that may have arisen at a facility.
